we celebrated la fete national yesterday and had such a great time doing it. it started with a mention from sam that we should make something french for dinner and when i asked my neighbor who happens to be a chef from europe for help with the menu, it turned into quite an event. the food was fabulous, the company lovely and the bubbly quite refreshing. for our centerpiece i pulled a french toille fabric swatch from a fabric book that was being thrown away by a store and laid it down on the table, on top of that i put mason jars wrapped in a blue and white striped fabric strip and other bottles filled with flowers picked from the garden. it was very simple, but very pretty. le menu consisted of escargot, la soupe a l’oignon, frisee salad with lardons and poached eggs, duck a l’ orange and potatoes a la boulangere, topped off with lavender creme brulee and lavender brownies. thank you france!
