i am delighted to be able to give away a copy of bittersweet by shanua niequist this week. i posted about her previous book, cold tangerines, a couple years ago and had the opportunity to share a few copies with some of you then. the timing of her newest book’s arrival on my doorstep could not have been more appropriate. the cover reads,” bittersweet-thoughts on change, grace, and learning the hard way”. inside shauna writes about a bittersweet season in her life. her words are so honest and comfortable. i wanted to reach through the pages and offer some sort of an empathetic embrace and thank her for sharing her stories.
i have found myself in possibly the hardest season i have ever experienced over the past couple of years as we have struggled with infertility, the financial woes of owning a small business, the growing pains of of our wonderful and forever marriage and right now, in this very moment, the closing of our shop, which has in some ways become my identity. in this season, like shauna, i have found so much good in my pain. so much bitter mixed in with my sweet. my adoration for and closeness with my family has never been stronger. my ability to see beauty in moments of quiet and simplicity have been a blessed gift from this very bittersweet time. i truly feel that without the trials of the past few years, my life would not be nearly as rich and my love for my husband and my little bug would not be nearly as deep. i have never been quite as joyful and content and i have never had more faith in myself. i know and can say with much conviction that i truly choose to dig my feet in completely to live fully this sweet life i have been given.
we all have a story. although, many of us do not have the ability to express the words of our story in the way that shauna is able to-in such a honest, brave and beautiful way. it is a gift and one that i am so very grateful that she has chosen to share with us through her books. i highly recommend that you leave your name below to enter the drawing for bittersweet. and if you don’t win, i am very sorry, but you will just have to pick yourself up one, or buy one for your closest friend and ask to borrow it when they are done. (oh and seriously, prepare yourself to spend a lot of money at your nearest gourmet grocery, because the way this girl can relate food to life is AH-mazing. ..”summer tastes like big salads with arugula and feta and blueberries, the tang of the cheese balancing the sweetness of berries.” (pg. 38, bittersweet)) SERIOUSLY. put your name below, a winner will be randomly selected and announced on monday.
